TOPIC SENTENCE – The majority of people that are accused of witchery in “The Crucible”, are women.
EVIDENCE –
EXAMPLE – Elizabeth Proctor is a mother and wife. She is accused of witchcraft, throughout Act Two, and is sentenced to be hanged. However, when it is found out that Elizabeth is pregnant, she is given a “privilege” to live until her baby is born.
EXPLANATION – This portrays women’s role in Miller’s writing. Women had the job of reproduction and supporting the family with food.
ELABORATION – Women in, The Crucible, may be respected in Salem, but will not have any sort of power over anyone or anything.
