To the people who have always considered females as the second citizens to the Earth

To the people who have always considered females as the second citizens to the Earth…well they are probably forgetting how their life has progressed, how once physical strength was not superior to intelligence and how respect was owned to both the genders.
Gender Equality’s meaning according to the dictionary is-
the state in which access to rights or opportunities is unaffected by gender.
From the ancient times when the Kings ruled and the Queens were used for their purpose to get a piece of land that they wished for from the Kings of other province. Once we have already materialized them, the custom of polygyny was prevalent and so was the dance by the women for King’s pleasure.
Well the Female Gender suppression does not stop right there, there was more to come… The families in India is still headed by the male member, hence Patriarchy still exists. Coming to job opportunities, considering a candidate applying for job, if two different gender candidates have applied for it, having same qualification, same knowledge and equal capability even then, a male would be hired instead of a female. It does not happen intentionally but it’s in every Indian’s behavior. In an Indian family living in the backward society…a male child’s education is preferred over a female’s education. In every field, the only factor which people consider is the physical built.
Times have however changed. Everyone surely denies the fact that they prefer the male child more however no one can forget what they have learned from the past… and the old saying, “History repeats itself.”
Coming to why we need gender equality in the present scenario, Wikipedia says, Gender equality means that the different behavior, aspirations and needs of women and men are considered, valued and favored equally. It does not mean that women and men have to become the same, but that their rights, responsibilities and opportunities will not depend on whether they are born male or female. Just as the meaning states…we need it so that rights of both the genders don’t get curbed. It is prominent to see males working in sectors but to increase the gender ratio in these sectors; we need to fight for gender equality. To change people’s mindset towards female capability, we need to fight for gender equality.
How can it be achieved completely?
• Stop child marriage and sexual harassment
• Make education gender sensitive
• Raise aspirations of girls and their parents
• Empower mothers
• Give proper value to ‘women’s work
• Get women into power
• Encourage women into non-traditional vocations
• Work together
• Stop the violence
• Beware the backlash
Surely these are just the step to get the women back to the track wee they should be and where they deserve to be. We can definitely argue about the fact that women are already getting an undue advantage however we also know that even now, the conditions have not improved any better. Hence, it is our responsibility as a citizen to work towards it.
